1.1
Coalition Senators make the following additional comments on the interim
report.
1.2 The Senate Select Committee on Red Tape's
motivation in addressing the considerable regulatory burden of red tape has identified
issues diminishing the safe and efficient supply of medicine.
1.3 These issues include the Pharmacy Rules
affecting the access and supply of medicine, tax compliance burdens, issues
surrounding the PBS remuneration processes, and outdated processes affecting
the PBS Safety Net.
1.4 The committee also found issues with state
ownership rules affecting community pharmacies in addition to issues arising as
a consequence of highly varied medicine legislation between states.
1.5 Noting that this is an interim report,
Coalition Senators will provide additional comments on these issues once the
final report has been tabled.
